Veterinary Technology – Associate of Applied Science Degree Program

The Veterinary Technology program at Sanford Brown Institute-, Ft Lauderdale (SBI) is designed to provide students with the technical and practical training necessary to work as veterinary technicians who provide competent and humane care toward the emotional and physical well-being of animals. The core curriculum is structured to include a lecture component and a clinical component. The final externship portion of the curriculum consists of supervised experiences in a clinical environment, which requires competencies, logs, and evaluations completed by the student. At the conclusion of the program, graduates who have diligently attended class and their externship, studied, and practiced their skills should have the skills to seek entry-level employment as veterinary technicians.

The Veterinary Technology program at SBI does not currently have programmatic accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). This means that graduates of the program are not eligible to apply to the Florida Veterinary Medical Association's Veterinary Technician Committee (FVMA-VTC) for registration and take the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) and the Florida Practical Examination (FPE). The requirements for taking and passing the VTNE and the State Board examination are not controlled by SBI and are subject to change without notice. Therefore, SBI cannot guarantee that graduates will be eligible to take the VTNE or State Board examination, at all or at any specific time, regardless of their eligibility status upon enrollment. Further, SBI does not control the state registration for veterinary technicians in Florida or in any other state. Thus, SBI cannot guarantee that graduates will be eligible to work as veterinary technicians in Florida or any other state, at all or at any specific time, regardless of their eligibility status upon enrollment.
